How to Apply

ICO Fellowship Application Deadlines: March 31 and September 30, each year.

Applicants who have passed the ICO International Basic and Clinical Examinations (www.icoexams.org) will be given preference in consideration for ICO Fellowships. However, passing these Examinations is not required to be accepted as an ICO Fellow.

1) Find a host
2) Send Request to Host
3) Choose Timing with Host
4) Your Host Sends FORM A
5) Complete FORM C with Host
6) Complete ICO Fellowship Application
7) Send ICO Fellowship Application

1)   Find a Host

  • Browse the Fellowship Host Directory (listing of training centers) (PDF-2 MB)
  • Decide on a subspecialty area of study
  • Choose a host in a foreign country who offers that subspecialty

2)   Send Request to Host

  • Send your preferred host an e-mail with a copy of your CV and ask if you can be accepted as a fellow with him or her if you are awarded an ICO International Fellowship
  • Do not contact more than one host at a time
  • The host has to accept or decline a request within 2 weeks
  • If host accepts, you have 7 days to confirm with them

Parallel applications, failure to confirm with host, or not informing host of changes in your schedule will all result in immediate exclusion from this program. 

3)   Choose Timing with Host

You and your host must agree on starting a fellowship between these dates:

  • March 31 application: fellowship must start between October 31 and July 1 of the following year
  • September 30 application: fellowship must start between March 31 and October 1 of the following year

4) Your Host Sends FORM A

Your host must fax FORM A (“Host’s Notice of Acceptance”) to ICO Fellowships before you send your application to the Fellowships office

5) Complete FORM C with Host

  • Review and complete FORM C (“Fellowship Plans”) with your fellowship host
  • The fellowship objectives must be met within 3 months

6) Complete ICO Fellowship Application

Download and complete the official ICO Fellowship Application

  • All forms must be completed using Microsoft Word
  • After completing forms on Microsoft Word, you must print out the forms to sign them
  • Forms without a signature will not be accepted
  • Letters of recommendation must have official letterhead, signature, and stamp
  • If your diplomas and certificates are not in English, they must have certified English translations attached

 7)  Send ICO Fellowship Application

  • Download ICO Fellowship Application Checklist (PDF-1000 KB)
  • Scan forms, certificates, testimonials, and any other documents in high resolution
  • Save these documents in .jpg, .gif, or .pdf format (do not insert scanned files into word documents)
  • Files must be printable in Din-A4 Format, otherwise we will not be able to read them
  • Take all scanned files and compress them into 1 zip file
  • E-mail zip file to the Fellowship Board at fellowship@icoph.org

We recommend reviewing the ICO Fellowship Application Checklist to be sure you have completed all of the necessary steps.

The Fellowship Board accepts no responsibility for incomplete information, non-receipt or delays in receipt caused by transmission or reception problems, equipment failure, or any similar cause.  Only complete applications will be processed.
