2024 ICO Tadeusz Krwawicz Gold Medal

The Recipient of the ICO Tadeusz Krwawicz Gold Medal is Prof. Tetsuro Oshika.

The Tadeusz Krwawicz Gold Medal is awarded every four years to an ophthalmologist who has significantly contributed to the advancement of ophthalmology, doing outstanding work in the treatment of diseases of the anterior segment, or introduction of new technologies and to the advancement of international relationships among ophthalmologists.

Professor Oshika is Chairman of Ophthalmology at the University of Tsukuba in Japan. He is President of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society, President-Elect of the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology and the Vice President of the Academy of Asia-Pacific Professors of Ophthalmology.

Prof. Oshika is former ICO Board Members and served as the President of the immensely successful World Ophthalmology Congress 2014 that was held in Tokyo. Internationally renowned as an expert in cataract and anterior segment surgery, Prof. Oshika is also an eminent clinician-scientist with research interests spanning ocular optics, corneal topography, ocular imaging with anterior segment optical coherence tomography, and the application of artificial intelligence in ophthalmology. He has authored or co-authored over 700 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to over 100 textbook chapters, and delivered more than 400 invited lectures.
