2026 ICO G.O.H. Naumann Award

The Recipient of the 2026 ICO G.O.H. Naumann Award for Leadership in Global Eye Care is Prof. Julián García-Feijóo.

The G.O.H. Naumann Award for Leadership in Global Eye Care is awarded every four years to an ophthalmologist who, acting as a leader of a supranational, national or subspecialty society that is a member of the ICO, has shown outstanding leadership and has made a significant contribution to global eye care.

Professor García-Feijóo is Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Complutense University and San Carlos Clinical Hospital in Madrid, Spain. 

As Director of the “Ocular Pathology and Visual Pathways Research Group” at the Health Research Institute at the aforementioned institutions, he has driven research spanning the basic, clinical, and surgical aspects of different ocular pathologies with a personal interest in open-angle and childhood glaucoma.

He is president of the Madrid Society of Ophthalmology and Vice-President of the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology. Previously he served as President of the Spanish Glaucoma Society, member of the European Glaucoma Society, Executive Committee and General Secretary of the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology and Editor-in-Chief of Archives of the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology journal.

Under his leadership, the Department of Ophthalmology was designated as National Reference Center for Childhood Glaucoma and for Corneal and Ocular Surface Reconstruction and became part of the European Reference Network for Rare Eye Diseases.

He has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the SEO Arruga Research and Castroviejo Awards and the Noel Rice Lecture of the UK Pediatric Glaucoma. Among others he authored 412 publications, supervised 64 PhD theses, edited 28 books and contributed 85 book chapters, and presented over 600 papers at national and international meetings.
