Gonin Medal

The Tadeusz Krwawicz Gold Medal

The Tadeusz Krwawicz Gold Medal is awarded every four years to an ophthalmologist who has significantly contributed to the advancement of ophthalmology, doing outstanding work in the treatment of diseases of the anterior segment and/or introduction of new technologies and to the advancement of international relationships among ophthalmologists. The Medal is given by the ICO President during the Opening Ceremony of the World Ophthalmology Congress.

The ICO Mark Tso Golden Apple Award

The Mark Tso Golden Apple Award is presented to an ophthalmologist doing outstanding work in regional training who is recognized for innovation and leadership in ophthalmic education within each of the four supranational regions. The Award is presented to an ophthalmologist every other year at the Supranational Congress. The recipient is invited to deliver the ICO Mark Tso Golden Apple Award Lecture during sessions of the congress dedicated to the field of education. Mark Tso was the ICO Vice President 1998—2006 and served as Director for Education until 2012. His dedication to ophthalmic education is honored through this award.

G.O.H. Naumann Award

The G.O.H. Naumann Award is given in recognition of Professor G.O.H. Naumann’s contributions as President of the International Council of Ophthalmology and his emphasis on the importance of ophthalmology providing leadership for global eye care. The Board of Trustees will present this award every four years to a young ophthalmologist who, acting as a leader of a supranational, national or subspecialty society that is a member of the ICO, has shown outstanding leadership and has made a significant contribution to global eye care. The Award is given by the President of the ICO Board during the Opening Ceremony of the World Ophthalmology Congress.

Bruce Spivey Ophthalmic Education Award

The Bruce Spivey Ophthalmic Education Award is awarded every four years to an ophthalmologist doing outstanding work in global education who, through innovation, development or application, has significantly advanced ophthalmic education in a manner that enhances eye care and the preservation of vision. The Medal is given by the ICO President during the Opening Ceremony of the World Ophthalmology Congress.
